Let Your Love of Learning be your Valentine at Victoria’s Royal BC Museum this February

  • July 15, 2017

Forget the chocolates and roses. If you have a real love of leaning, let love rule at Victoria’s Royal BC Museum this February. Here are three ways how…

1. Go Behind the Scenes

The museum’s new adult workshop series, Unexplored Highlights of the Royal BC Museum, explores big ideas through dynamic lectures and exclusive visits to the collections. Ever wanted to get up-close and personal to Emily Carr’s powerful Tanoo, QCI? Now’s the time!

This behind the scenes program is hands-on and provides up close access to five superstar objects in the first workshop. In the second workshop you’ll learn how the meaning of an object changes over time, while in the third workshop you’ll see how the museum collects items that represent the province of British Columbia. In the fourth workshop you get to go behind the scenes to see the collections. The program takes place on February 3, 10, 17 and 24 and costs $150.

2. Wonder Sunday

February’s Wonder Sunday program (taking place on the 4, 11, 18 and 25), is all about Chinese New Year and the start of the Year of the Dog. Explore the museum’s Chinatown display, have a go at making your own paper lantern and learn all about the animals of the zodiac. The program is included museum admission.

3. Live at Lunch

Celebrate Black History Month with a talk from Karen Alexander Hosahl of the Black History Awareness Society on Wednesday, February 7. Karen is a descendent of the Alexander pioneer family and will share stories of black pioneers. Admission to the Live at Lunch: Black Pioneers in British Columbia event is by donation.

If you’re looking for a great hotel in Victoria, The Days Inn Victoria Uptown is the perfect option. Offering breathtaking views of the Gorge Waterway by day and the sparkling lights of the BC Legislature Building by night, the hotel is a fantastic accommodation option for a getaway on Vancouver Island this February.
