Spring has arrived, and after such a long winter, we’re ready to celebrate! Luckily, there are plenty of ways to celebrate the arrival of this highly-anticipated season. From wandering through the magnificent Butchart Gardens to heading over to Fisherman’s Wharf for some fish and chips, check out this list of ways to celebrate spring in Victoria.

Visit Butchart Gardens

There’s no better time to visit Butchart Gardens than in the spring! Less busy than peak summertime yet just as mesmerizing, Butchart Gardens is the perfect place for an afternoon stroll in March or April. Visitors can expect plenty of marvelous flowers in bloom, not to mention several undeniably gorgeous photo opportunities. Tickets are currently available in-person only and range from $2.00 to $27.00. In addition, since wandering through Butchart Gardens is an outdoor experience, it is COVID-friendly activity the whole family will love.

Head to Barb’s Fish & Chips

Barb’s Fish & Chips is a Victoria institution, and guess what? It’s just reopened for 2021. Barb’s Fish & Chips, located in Fisherman's Wharf, closes its doors each winter only to reopen in mid-March. They’ll now be open until October, but why wait? They are known to have some of the best fish and chips in the whole city. Menu items include fried Pacific halibut, fried Pacific sockeye salmon, oysters, breaded shrimp, mussels, clams, and grilled prawn skewers. In essence, if you like any type of seafood, Barb’s is the place to go.

Plan a Picnic at Saxe Point

Saxe Point in Esquimalt is an idyllic place for a spring picnic. Offering views of the ocean, a scenic garden path, picnic tables, and a sizable parking lot, it is the perfect spot to celebrate the start of spring. All you need to do is pack some snacks and beverages and a picnic blanket and you’re ready to go!

If you’re planning a trip to Victoria this spring, then we recommend taking part in any and all of the activities listed above. If you’re looking for a place to stay during your visit, we’d love to host you here at the Days Inn Victoria Uptown.

After being stuck inside all winter, there’s no better way to celebrate spring than by going for a stroll among the cherry blossoms.

It’s Black History Month, and while black history and culture deserves to be celebrated all year long, we recommend using February as a jumping off point.
