UrbaCity: A Race Around Victoria… With A Cunning Twist

  • June 11, 2018

The UrbaCity Challenge is Victoria’s own urban adventure race: teams compete in a free-form course, deciding their own route and completing unique – and sometimes devious - Challenge Stations as they go.

Heritage buildings and boutique shops are the backdrop for the racers’ amazing feats of physical prowess and mental agility. No one knows just what the challenges will be, and time is limited, so racers have to be quick on their feet in more ways than one.

All the action takes place on Sunday, September 24 and all fundraising pledges go directly to Victoria’s Island Prostate Centre. Since its inception in 2011, the event has managed to raise $160,000 for the Island Prostate Centre.

It’s a great opportunity – and great cause – to put your body and brain to the ultimate test with non-stop problem-solving, teamwork and energy. And you’ll see a side to the provincial capital that you’ve never seen before, all while raising money for a worthy cause.

There are three levels of racing available: Fun, Fierce and Corporate Face-Off.

Fun racers take on a shorter course and fewer fitness challenges, making it the best choice for families and casual racers of all ages and activity levels.

Fierce racers take on more fitness challenges and an even longer course, while still tackling mental challenges. The Fierce category is best for racers that are ready to pound the pavement and put their brain and body to the test.

Racers in the Corporate Face-Off category play a combination of puzzles, games and fitness challenges with their co-workers.

Organized by volunteers at MAXIMUS Canada, not only does UrbaCty support cancer care, it also shows off the beauty of downtown Victoria and is an awful lot of fun.

If you’re looking for a great hotel in Victoria, The Days Inn Victoria Uptown is the perfect option. Offering breathtaking views of the Gorge Waterway by day and the sparkling lights of the BC Legislature Building by night, the hotel is a fantastic accommodation option for a long weekend getaway on Vancouver Island this summer.
