Soleil to Shine at Victoria’s Save on Foods Memorial Centre

  • January 15, 2017

Prepare to have your mind blown: Cirque du Soleil’s Corteo is set to hit the stage at Victoria’s Save on Foods Memorial Centre from October 4 to 7.

With a cast of 51 acrobats, musicians, singers and actors from all around the world, Coteo is a Cirque du Soleil classic, and it has amazed more than eight million people across 19 countries since it debuted in Montreal back in 20015.

Corteo, which means "cortege" in Italian, is a joyous procession, a festive parade imagined by a clown. The show brings together the passion of the actor with the grace and power of the acrobat to plunge the audience into a theatrical world of fun, comedy and spontaneity situated in a mysterious space between heaven and earth.

The clown pictures his own funeral taking place in a carnival atmosphere, watched over by quietly caring angels. Juxtaposing the large with the small, the ridiculous with the tragic and the magic of perfection with the charm of imperfection, the show highlights the strength and fragility of the clown, as well as his wisdom and kindness, to illustrate the portion of humanity that is within each of us.

The music, by turns lyrical and playful, carries Corteo through a timeless celebration in which illusion teases reality.

You’ll see artists jumping on two 600-pound beds that move on rotating platforms, aerial acrobats swinging from giant, spinning chandeliers, an artist performing as a marionette, hula hoop dances and a special ‘helium dance’.

Offering breathtaking views of the Gorge Waterway by day and the sparkling lights of the BC Legislature Building by night, The Days Inn Victoria Uptown is the perfect accommodation option if you’re treating yourself to a Victoria theatre break this summer.
