If you’re planning a family vacation to Victoria around Christmas time, rest assured there will be no shortage of activities and events to check out. Whether you’re traveling with toddlers, elementary-age kids, or teenagers, you can make awesome family memories in Victoria this winter. Check out just some of the many events happening this winter season below!

Family wreath making workshops

The family that does crafts together, stays together! What a better way to get in the holiday spirit than making your very own Christmas wreath all the while surrounded by beautiful gardens. Over 3 weekends of November 23-24, November 30-December 1, and December 7-8, the Gardens at HPC (Horticultural Centre of the Pacific) is host to awesome workshops where you and your family can create beautiful holiday gifts and decor! No need to worry about purchasing materials, as there will be plenty of evergreen boughs, berries, cones, and bows. However, it is recommended you bring garden gloves and shears to class. Cost is $50 per two-hour workshop, inclusive of materials and instruction. After all your hard work, you may roam the gardens and take in the crisp winter air.

Free pictures with Santa at the market | December 7, 14, and 21

Bring your camera (or fully charged smartphone) to the Victoria public market for memorable photos with Santa. This event is free of charge. Kids can hop onto Father Christmas’s lap and tell him all their Christmas wishes, while you take that picture-perfect shot for the family Christmas card or the holiday photo album. Visit Santa on Saturday December 7th, 14th, or 21st from 10 am to 3 pm for this photo opportunity on the Upper Level of the market. Please note that parents are responsible for taking their own pictures, so make sure to fully charge your phone or camera battery. Once you’ve captured the perfect shot, take a stroll around the market for tasty treats or some last-minute Christmas shopping!

Christmas in Old Town | November 11 to January 9

Visit the Royal BC Museum in Downtown Victoria from November 11th to January 9th and experience Christmases of years past. You can stroll along the wood-cobbled streets and admire the festive garlands and old-fashioned shops, imagining you’re time-traveling to Christmases of yesteryear. Access to Christmas in Old Town is included with your admission to the Royal BC Museum ($26.95 for adults and $16.95 for youth). If you visit on December 13th, you can visit with Santa Claus from 11 am to 3 pm, and take a photo with him for a $5 donation.
