The Victoria Symphony is set to make a big splash in the city’s stunning Inner Harbour on August 5 when it performs to an enthusiastic crowd of 40,000 people from a floating stage in the harbour.  Here are seven reasons why you won’t want to miss the 29th annual Victoria Symphony Splash

1. There’ll be Some Amazing Performers
Featured guest performers include 17-year-old violist Danielle Tsao and Dock Side Drive as the opening act. Danielle is the second in her family to be selected as Young Soloist. Her sister Carolyn played the piano in 2007.

2. There’ll be Some Big Screen Blockbusters
The program features plenty of big screen themes, including music by John Williams, Korngold, Morricone and Max Steiner, as well as older film composers like Nielsen, Wagner, Vaughan-Williams and Leonard Bernstein.

3. There’ll be Music All Day Long
The events kick off at 12 pm with the Albert Head Cadets performing on the Legislature steps. The popular Family Zone runs 1 pm – 4 pm, where kids can try playing a musical instrument, jump around in SportBall’s bouncy castle or do an activity prepared by the Royal BC Museum.

4. There’ll be Food & Drink
The Beverage Garden, operated by Lighthouse Brewery, opens at 3 pm. The Culinary Corner, with food vendors, will be set up along Government Street starting at 3 pm serving everything from pizza to Mexican, Greek food, ice cream and donuts.

5. There’ll be Swing
Starting at 4 pm, Dock Side Drive, a local swing & show band will play on the barge.

6. Young Soloists will Shine
At 7:30 pm Maestro Christian Kluxen and the Victoria Symphony take the stage to play a fun concert featuring Danielle Tsao, the violist Young Soloist, and a wonderfully eclectic collection of some of the best orchestral music out there.

7. It’ll go off with a Bang
The day will draw to a suitably noisy end with Victoria Symphony’s performance of Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture” at 9:45pm—accompanied by fireworks and field guns.

If you’re heading to Victoria to experience all the excitement of Victoria Symphony Splash, The Days Inn Victoria Uptown is the perfect accommodation option in Victoria. With its breathtaking views of the Gorge Waterway by day and the sparkling lights of the BC Legislature Building by night, the location of this friendly hotel is definitely hard to beat.
