It’s no secret that Victoria is a food-lover’s paradise! This fall, there are some great events in town that will give you a fresh perspective on food, drink, and "the culinary experience". If you like to find new ways to eat healthy while exploring new flavours and textures, check out some great food and drink events coming to Victoria this November below:

What Artists Bring to the Table with Samantha Radon | November 3

“What Artists Bring to the Table” is a food series presented by the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria that has been running in Victoria since July 2019, which “[explores] the artistic practices of cultivating and cooking food”. This series views food as more than just fueling your body, but also as a political act that is inextricably tied to different sociopolitical systems, and a social act that helps to create identity and explore other cultures. The workshop on November 3rd is presented by artist Samantha Radon at the Oaklands Community Centre and is focused on pickling veggies and the history of fermentation in food processing. The event will feature a hands-on workshop where participants will work with Radon to create and sample fermented food, followed by a discussion exploring the themes of the workshop. Sauerkraut, kimchi, and kombucha-lovers, rejoice! This event is free to attend, but be sure to register in advance to secure your spot.

Vegan Whole Food Plant Based Cooking Workshop | November 4

Whole foods and vegan options are all the rage — and for good reason! The plant-based food movement has made it possible to eat delicious, satisfying food while nourishing your body and mind. On November 4th, check out this vegan Whole Food Plant Based Cooking Workshop at the Ukrainian Cultural Centre to build your skills and learn about healthy plant-based cooking. This structured workshop includes a food demonstration of great recipes, a full meal, and an illustrated health lecture on heart disease by Dr. Herb Domke and Nurse Heide Domke. Participants will receive handouts of all recipes shown in the workshop plus additional take-home materials on topics covered in the presentation. This event is designed for adults but mature teens and preteens are welcome with adult supervision. Unfortunately, this workshop is not suitable for children. Be sure to book your space in advance as spaces are limited and the workshop is expected to sell out!
