5 Things to do in Victoria before Christmas

  • September 30, 2017

It’s not ALL about shopping, you know. The run-up to Christmas is a magical time of year in Victoria, BC. Here are five of our favourite ways to enjoy the run up to the festive season in the city…

1. Have a Cup of Tea

Afternoon tea at the Fairmont Empress Hotel on Government Street is a sumptuous affair at any time of year, but in December it’s extra special. From December 1 to January 2 you can partake in a traditional festive afternoon tea, which features all the tasty seasonal treats you could with for. You can even pair your tea with a bubbly glass of Veuve Clicquot Brut Champagne.

2. Support a Great Cause

The halls of the Bay Centre on Douglas Street are transformed into an enchanted forest from November 16 until January 2, 2018. This is the 26th year that the Festival of Trees has raised funds for the BC Children’s Hospital. Go along, see the amazing displays, sponsor a tree and support a great cause.

3. Meet Santa

Christmas at the Victoria Public Market on Douglas Street will be in full swing from November 25 until December 24. You’ll find everything you need for under the tree and on the table from a fabulous range of local artisans and vendors. And the big man himself, Santa, will be in attendance on December 2, 9 and 16 from 12 noon until 3pm.

4. Listen to Kenny

One of the world’s most revered saxophonists will be making Yuletide bright this holiday season, as multi-million selling instrumentalist Kenny G brings his ‘Miracles Holiday & Hits Tour’ to Save on Foods Memorial Centre on December 4. He’ll be performing some of his greatest hits, including songs from his 1994 smash album Miracles: The Holiday Album - one of the most successful holiday albums ever.

5. Shop for Unique Gifts

Are you serious about trying to find truly unique gifts this Christmas? Then check out the Out of Hand Christmas Craft Fair at the Victoria Conference Centre on Douglas Street from November 24 to 26. This popular show is returning with some of BC’s most creative artisans, bringing an eclectic mix of food, fashion, home decor and art.

If you’re looking for a great hotel in Victoria, The Days Inn Victoria Uptown is the perfect option. Offering breathtaking views of the Gorge Waterway by day and the sparkling lights of the BC Legislature Building by night, the hotel is a fantastic accommodation option for a pre-Christmas getaway on Vancouver Island this winter.
