4 Great Reasons to Visit the Royal BC Museum this Fall

  • October 15, 2017

When the weather gets chillier and the days get shorter, it’s a great time to focus on spreading your cultural and artistic boundaries. And with a whole host of exciting events and exhibitions on offer, there’s nowhere better to do that than Victoria’s glorious Royal BC Museum this fall…

1. Because you can Eat a Sandwich as you Learn about Prohibition

Grab a sandwich on Wednesday, October 4 and go along to the ‘Prohibition in British Columbia: How the Prohibitionists Won the Battle but Lost the War’ Live at Lunch presentation. Archivist Frederike Verspoor will regale you with a story of fraud, duplicity and corruption – a delicious side dish to a tuna-mayo sandwich!

2. Because you can Learn Why Performance is Medicine

On Saturday, October 14 the museum is hosting ‘Performance as Medicine’ Indigenous Performance Art Symposium. You can explore Indigenous philosophies and contemporary expressive art forms. There will also be a free performance on the Legislative Assembly lawn and a panel discussion in the museum’s Clifford Carl Hall.

3. Because Life can be Complicated Sometimes

The museum’s fabulous ‘It’s Complicated’ discussion series continues on Wednesday, October 18 by taking a look at the ‘New Immigrants’ theme. It’s a great opportunity to relate to how new immigrants in Victoria manage to connect with locals.

4. Because Things can get Spooky

Beware: this year’s Halloween event, ‘Night Shift: Dark Circus’ takes place on Saturday, October 28. The museum’s annual spooky party is fast becoming known as Victoria’s hottest Halloween party and it sells out fast!

If you’re looking for a great hotel in Victoria, The Days Inn Victoria Uptown is the perfect option. Offering breathtaking views of the Gorge Waterway by day and the sparkling lights of the BC Legislature Building by night, the hotel is a fantastic accommodation option for a long weekend getaway on Vancouver Island this summer.
