Just 30-minutes from downtown Victoria, Sidney by the Sea is a charming town that sits on the edge of the Salish Sea and offers spectacular views of the Gulf Islands, San Juan Islands and Mount Baker. It also hosts some fabulous summer events. Here are a couple of our favourites…

1. Sidney Street Market
Taking place every Thursday from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm until August 30, Sidney’s Street Market has been a regular summer feature on Vancouver Island for 17 years.

Every Thursday night from June to August, the town's charming main street, Beacon Avenue, is closed to traffic and transformed into one of the most colourful markets in British Columbia.

It’s a great place to shop local, with around 120 vendors providing everything from tasty street food to jewellery, toys, flowers, handmade soaps, jams, fudge and clothing.

It’s also a prime place to people-watch on a sunny summer evening. After all, Sidney Street Market continues to be the biggest market on Vancouver Island, attracting between 3,000 to 5,000 people each night.

2. Sidney Sculpture by the Sea
Taking place from July 8 to September 4, Sidney Sculpture by the Sea is a contemporary sculpture display featuring 100 works of art by 30 artists at the Mary Winspear Centre and the Sidney Museum.

The event will also be placing the many sculptures on Sidney’s waterfront and throughout the town in the spotlight. These include the large unique collection of First Nations sculptures at the Mary Winspear Centre. And towards the end of July, The Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea will be unveiling a new, contemporary piece by master-carver, Temosën (Charles Elliot) on the town’s waterfront.

Do you want to experience what the gorgeous town of Sidney has to offer? Then check into The Days Inn Victoria Uptown, which is just 30 minutes from Sidney. Offering sublime views of the Gorge Waterway by day and the sparkling lights of the BC Legislature Building by night, is the perfect place to use as a base for a Vancouver Island getaway.
